Bridge Building

"Not long after this we had another turn out to build the middle Bridge in Monroe. One of our party had previously been to Espy's Mill & brought on the other five gallons of whiskey (which was brought on their backs).

We started as before, early in the morning - took turns in carrying the whiskey, and arrived in good season at the place of building.

“The first thing after arriving was to form a ring and all hands take a horn. We next appointed Esq. Turner mediator and Reuben Benjamin Master Builder, and then commenced the Bridge." - Sketches of the Early History of Pierpont by Lampson Wright Esq., 1845
