Riley Brite Carter, Sr., 101, formerly of Mitchells, Virginia passed away in Bradenton, Florida, Monday, September 3, 2007. Riley was born in Bristol, Tennessee, June 22, 1906 to John M. Carter and Amanda Hodges Carter; graduated from King College and the University of Tennessee; served his country in the U. S. Army Air Corp; retired as a vice president of People's Life Insurance Company; resided in Mitchells, Virginia from 1972 until moving to Florida; was an Elder Emeritus of Mitchell's Presbyterian Church and it's oldest member; was a past president of Mitchell's Ruritan Club and past commander of Little Fork Rangers, Sons of the Confederacy. Surviving Mr. Carter is his son, Gary K. Carter and his wife Kathy A. Carter of Bradenton, Florida and five grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents;wife, Jessie Stinson Carter and son, Riley B. Carter, II.
