He began work for the Santa Fe railroad on Oct. 1, 1909 when he came from Louisiana, Mo., to take up his duties as roadmaster at Florence. On May 17, 1910 he was transferred to Newton where he has been stationed ever since. Before entering Santa Fe service he was employed by the Chicago and Alton railroad where he began work as a laborer on August 1, 1904 and worked up to the position of roadmaster.
He was a jovial individual, making friends easily and was always ready with a joke. He was well liked by those who knew him. he was hard working and often exerted himself more than was for his own good. upon occasion, he would work side by side with his men, when necessary to speed a project thru.
