Son of Aly and Anna Evans Hatfield, and husband of Flora Stafford Hatfield. When my grandfather Stafford wrote about the family, he referred to his Aunt Flora's husband as Uncle Jim "Bullneck" Hatfield.

Jim Hatfield was a first cousin to "Devil" Anse Hatfield, the leader of the Hatfield clan during the Hatfield & McCoy feud - their fathers were brothers. In the 1850 census, the two families lived within a few houses of each other; Jim and Anse were close to the same age.
