PASS CHRISTIAN --- Laree Elespa King, 98, of Pass Christian, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, in Pass Christian at Dixie White House Nursing Home.

Mrs. King was born June 1, 1901, in Gainesville, MO, and came to Oklahoma by covered wagon at age four. She married William J. "Bill" King on June 20, 1921.

The Farmerette Club originated in her home in 1938 and she remained an active member until she moved to Mississippi in 1990. Mrs. King was a charter member of Alathean Sunday School Class, First Baptist Church, Apache, Oklahoma, and taught Sunday School for over fifty-four years. She had written several short stories that have been published and was well-known for her poetry.

In 1981 she was selected Outstanding Senior Citizen at the Apache Senior Nutrition Center, having been chosen over all other entries in an eight county area. In 1989 she was awarded first place with trophy and award in the Penman's Guild Oklahoma Heritage Writing Contest.

Mrs. King was preceded in death by her husband, Bill King; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mack Sims; brothers, Everett Sims and Phil Sims; sisters, Onvia Sims Miller, Eunice Sims Hayes, Elsie Sims Mitchell, and Hazel Sims Bragg; and two infant sons, Paul Wayne King and Lloyd Raymond King.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, David and Marilyn King of Long Beach; a sister-in-law, Bertha Hall of Anadarko, OK; two grandchildren, Brenda King Jones and her husband, Bill, of Joshua, TX, and Roger King of Ft. Worth, Texas; one stepgreat-grandson, Zachary Jones of Joshua, TX; nineteen nieces and nephews and several grand-nieces and nephews.

Mrs. King was sent from Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Gulfport to Crews Funeral Home in Apache, OK, for a funeral service Friday at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Apache. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Apache.
