A Gillespie man drowned in Lake Lou Yaeger in Litchfield Tuesday afternoon when the small boat he and three others were in capsized nose-first into the lake during windy conditions in a pending storm.

Travis Semplowski, 21, of Gillespie, was pronounced dead at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.

Two of the other occupants were able to swim to shore, and one, wearing a lifejacket, remained in the water with the victim trying to keep him afloat.

Semplowski was pulled from the water unconscious by citizens on a privately owned pontoon boat, according to the Litchfield Police Department. Citizens on the boat began CPR efforts until Litchfield Fire Department personnel arrived in a rescue boat and assumed resuscitation efforts.

The victim was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield but never regained consciousness.
