Eva was born in Darlington, Lafayette County, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Sarah Leota Riley and Allen G. McDowell. She married William Alfred Overturf. Her mother died in 1879 and her father later remarried Sarah Coulter.

Funeral services were held Friday for Mrs. W.A. Overturf, 73, who had lived in the Bristow community for 53 years. Mrs. Overturf died at her home a mile and one half west of Bristow last Tuesday afternoon following a stroke suffered March 8. Services were held at the home and at the United Brethren church with the Rev. J.M. Miller in charge. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery. Born October 18, 1870, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allen G. McDowell at Darlington, Wisconsin, she was named Eva Adell. While still a small child she came with her parents to Iowa, and after the death of her mother in 1879 she made her home with her grandparents. When 12 she went to Dumont to make her home with the Silas McManus family. She was married to Alpha Overturf on Jan. 25, 1891, and for 53 years they had made their home near Bristow. As long as her health permitted she was active in church and community affairs. She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Al Wendt and Mrs. Glenn Hearn, four granddaughters and a grandson of Bristow; a brother, Willard McDowell of Delmar, Delaware; a half sister, Mrs. Glenn Riley of Iowa Falls, and a half brother, Reuben McDowell of Waverly. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Marshall McDowell, and two grandsons. Among those from a distance who attended the large funeral Friday were: Mr. and Mrs. Reuben McDowell, Kenneth and Delight of Waverly; Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Riley, Doris, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Riley and Mrs. Harry Smith of Iowa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. John Miller of Rudd, and Mrs. John Piper of Buffalo, North Dakota.
