Yesterday morning the family of Mrs. Sara Hoopes, who lives on East Lancaster avenue, was greatly shocked to fin the body of their daughter, Susan Hoopes, lying in an out kitchen, apparently dead. Word was at once telephoned to a physician, who at once responded, but on his arrival pronounced that life was extinct. On investigation a gas jet was found to have been left open on the stove. The body was placed upon a bed and the Coroner was at once notified. On the arrival of Coroner Garrett he viewed the situation, but did not empanel a jury. The information given by the family and a cousin who was staying in the Hoopes home was that Susan Hoopes got up about six o'clock and told her mother she would go and feed the chickens. Shortly after a colored girl, who works in the family, went down and smelled gas. She notified the cousin who came downstairs and investigated, when she found Miss Hoopes, as above stated.
