Services for Violet Marie (Tate) McFarland-Barnes, 75, of Tyler are scheduled for Saturday, May 6, 2006 at 3:30 P.M. at the Lloyd James Funeral Home Chapel in Tyler, with the Reverend Roy F. Thoene officiating. Interment will follow at the Flint Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday, May 5, 2006 from 6:30 - 8:30 at the funeral home.

Mrs. McFarland-Barnes died Saturday, April 29, in Houston, Texas. She was born August 19, 1930, in Flint to Cecil and Lela May (Bass) Tate. She was a graduate of Tyler High School class of 1947.

Mrs. McFarland-Barnes worked for the Tyler Independent School District for almost 30 years, retiring as the Certification Officer in 1990.

She was a member of Bullard Southern Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing the organ for many years for various churches. She also enjoyed playing 42 at the First Baptist Church in Gresham every Thursday night.

She was preceded in death by her father, Cecil Tate, on September 14, 1981, her husband Lee Harvey McFarland on June 7, 1985, and her brother Billy Joe Tate, on June 29, 1998.

She was a loving wife, mother, and Omi (means grandmother in German).

Survivors include her husband, Claude Alfred Barnes, Jr. of Bullard; mother, Lela May Tate of Tyler; daughter and son-in-law, Dixie and Montgomery West of Sugar Land;
daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Dennis Milliron of Houston; son and daughter-in-law Craig and Mary McFarland of Tyler; grandsons, Dennis Riggs of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and Aubrey Milliron of Houston; granddaughters, Gwendolyn Riggs of Tyler, Jennifer Milliron of Tyler, Erin West of Houston and Stephanie Milliron pursuing studies at Drew University, Madison, New Jersey; brother and sister-in-law, Cecil Edward and Marilyn Tate of Flint; sister and brother-in-law, Portia and Lindley Welch of Palestine; sister-in-law, Ethelene Tate of Flint; nephews, Kevin Tate of Tyler, Keith E. Tate of Whitehouse, Forrest Welch of Athens, Troy Tate of Flint, Damon Welch of Palestine; and nieces, Kimberly Anderson of Flint, Tammy Edwards of Troup, Karen Colston of Tyler, Misty Jacobs of Tyler, Valerie Ramsey of Whitehouse; and numerous grandnephews and grandnieces.

Additional survivors include: step-daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Steve Martin of Tyler; step-son and daughter-in-law, David and Wilma Barnes of Richmond, Texas; step-daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and David Gray of Bullard; step-son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Traci Barnes of Houston; step-grandsons Weston Gray of Bullard, and Lane Barnes of Houston; step-granddaughters Caroline Barnes of Richmond, Natalie Gray of Bullard, and Kristin Barnes of Richmond.
