Joseph was the son of David and Margaret(NORRIS)HAZELTON of Digby, Nova Scotia. After his father's death and mother's departure, he lived with his 1st cousin William HAZELTON (My Great-Grandfather) and mistakenly thought he was his brother.

He was a seafarer,farmer and truckman in Digby. He married Mary Madeline SAULNIER 03 Aug 1880 and they had the following children:
1. Annie Beatrice b. 11 Mar 1881 m. Unknown SAWYER
2. Mary Lidia b. 24 Jun 1884 m. Alexander CROCKET
3. Margaret E. b. 30 Apr 1887 m. Herbert RICE
4. Rachael Elizabeth b. Mar 1889
5. Ernest Harry b. 23 Nov 1896 m. Nelly Pearl WADE
6. Esther Vera b. Feb 1905

After his wife Madeline died, Joseph moved in with his daughter Mary Lida CROCKET in Andover.
