Henry Nelson Artis, 91, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005, at Briarcliff Health Care Center.
He was born Sept. 15, 1914, in Campbell County.
Mr. Artis was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard. He came to Oak Ridge in 1943 with his wife, Margaret. He retired from Union Carbide Corporation, after 22 years in the Nuclear Division. He was a member of the Oak Ridge Church of God and enjoyed gardening, dogs, friends and family.
Mr. Artis was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 53 years, Margaret Lee Bailey Artis, who died Sept. 17, 2005; and brothers, Elmer Artis, James Artis and Charles Artis.
He is survived by his son, Philip N. Artis of Oak Ridge, and several nieces and nephews, along with special friends, Nan Kingsley, Doris Thomas, Karen Clark and the Carson Ridenour family.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Anderson Memorial Gardens with the Rev. James Bandy officiating. The family asks that any memorials be in the form of contributions to a favorite charity of the donor's choice. Weatherford Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
