Mary Victoria was born in Liberty, Illinois on October 13, 1854. Her parents were John and Mary Hughes. She had 5 brothers and sisters. They were William, Henry, Cora, James and Hattie. In 1870 Mary was fifteen years old and living with her family in Mckee, Adams Co. Illinois.
Mary was married to Marcus Otis Hoffman in Adams Co. Illinois on March 14, 1872.
To this union nine children were born. John M., Myrtle H., Blanche L., James Clarence, Chester Marcus, Henry Vance, Otis Otto, Lulu Edith and Iva Vesta.
In 1899 Mark, Mary and four of the children moved to a farm near Dodge City, Kansas making the trip in a covered wagon.
Mary died on January 1,1944 in San Francisco, California at 89 years 2 months and 18 days. She is buried in the Hoffman Family plot in Dodge City, Kansas at the Mapel Grove Cemetery.
