Henry Vance Hoffman Dec 1885 - July 1937

Henry Vance Hoffman, son of Mr and Mrs. M.O. Hoffman, was born on December 23, 1885 in Kellerville, Illinois and departed this life July 7th, 1937 at 10:30 o'clock at night of heart trouble and complications of Bright's disease at the age of 51 years, 6 mo. and 14 days, at his home in Farley, New Mexico. He was united in marriage to Irene Hageman on November 20, 1912 at Dodge City, Kansas. To his union 5 children were born. One baby girl died in infancy in 1913. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Irene Hoffman, two sons, Albert and Roland Vance. Two daughters, Neva Helen and Adelena. He also leaves his mother, Mrs. M.O. Hoffman, of Dodge City, Kan., four sisters, Mrs. R.L. Hughes of Kellerville, Illinois; Mrs. Alva Smith, of Clayton, Illinois; Mrs. W.M. Joerling, of Seattle, Wash; and Mrs. Orval Burton, of Dodge City, Kansas, also three brothers, J.M. Hoffman, of Kellerville, Illinois; J.C. Hoffman, Granada, Colo., and Otis Hoffman, of Lamar Colo.; on brother, Chester M. Hoffman, of Sacramento, California, preceeded him death in 1927, also his father, M.O. Hoffman, in 1916.
Henry came to Kansas at the age of fourteen with his parents. He moved with his family to Gladstone, New Mexico 8 years ago and entered the Mercantile business there for about three years, later moved to Farley, N.M. And at the time of his death was owner of the Farley Water Works, and Shoe & Harness Shop. His health has been failing for about ten years. He became seriously ill in April of this year. He was so patient through all his suffering.
He will be greatly missed by his many relatives and friends.
In the death of Mr. Hoffman Farley loses on of it's most valued and loved citizens. As one of the town's pioneer residents he was always known to be a booster of every community endeavor that sought advancement. He was loved and greatly respected by all that knew him and news of his passing throws the entire community into a state of sadness that is diffcult to overcome.
