Dr. James Clinton Taylor, age 79 years, passed away Saturday morning, October 2, 2004, in Columbus, North Carolina.
He was born and raised in Vienna, Illinois, the son of Clint & Lella (nee Verhines) Taylor. He served in the Navy during World War II. In 1948, he married Frances Thompson and pursued his career attaining a PhD in Education. He served the Illinois communities of Metropolis, Tuscola & Knoxville as Superintendent of Schools and the state as Regional Director of Schools under the State Superintendent while living in Marion, Illinois. A lifelong Methodist, he served faithfully in each community in which he lived. He was a wonderful example for his children & grandchildren, whom he thoroughly enjoyed. He was an avid storyteller with a wonderful sense of humor. He also enjoyed golf & woodworking.
Preceding him in death were his wife Frances, a son James Wade, and one sister, Esta Jean Mott. He is survived by 4 daughters â€" Susan (David) Larson of Anderson, SC, Elizabeth (Chuck) Wheatley of Deerfield, IL, Nancy (Bill) Wheatley of Newburgh, IN, & Betsy (Matt) Kinnane of Bartlett, TN; 10 Grandchildren â€" Taylor & Carrie Larson; Wade & Miriam Wheatley; James, Emmy & Lydia Wheatley; Robert, Callie & Lillie Kinnane; 2 Sisters â€" Nysabea (Dr. James) Veach of Vienna, IL & Rhodene (Arch) Hosick of Statesboro, GA.
Clinton will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning, October 8, 2004, at 11 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna, IL. Rev. Dennis Fager will officiate. Interment will be in the Taylor Cemetery, north of Vienna, IL.
Friends may call from 5 PM â€" 8 PM Thursday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
Memorials may be made to the Taylor Cemetery Fund.
