Lucy Syfan was born on October 15, 1897 in Hodges, Greenwood County, South Carolina to George William Syfan and Nina Augusta Isaacs Syfan. On April 22, 1918 she married Ralph Ashford Merck in Abbeville, Abbeville County, South Carolina. He was born on November 27, 1890 in Gainesville, Hall County, Georgia to Charles Stephens Merck and Charlotte DeBelle Ashford Merck. Both Lucy and Ralph died of Spanish influenza complicated by pneumonia. Lucy died February 20, 1919 along with their stillborn daughter, Evelyn, and Ralph died February 22, 1919 in Gainesville, Georgia. They were buried in Alta Vista Cemetery, Gainesville.
