SOUTH BEND - Walter D. Fields, 88, peacefully passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2009, in the Ironwood Health & Rehabilitation Care Facility. He was preceded in death last month by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary K. Fields. Walter was also preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Edith Fields; his brother, Robert E. Fields; and his sister-in-law, June Fields.

Survivors include his sons, David (Patti) Fields of Fountain Hills, AZ, and Scott Fields of Granger, IN; former daughter-in-law, Linda Fields of Granger, IN; grandchildren, Steven (Clare) Fields of Granger, IN, Amy (Casey) Eycleshymer of Osceola, IN; and great-grandchildren, Joe Fields, Alison Fields and Easton Eycleshymer. Walter is also survived by his niece, Carol (Clyde) McFarland of Miami, Florida.

Walter was a devoted husband to his wife Mary and will be dearly missed by his entire family. He was an employee of the Bendix Corporation and retired in 1984 after 44 years of service as a design engineer. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a gunnery instructor during his time in the military.
