Bayard was a Machinist Mate Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy from 1902 to 1921. He died aboard ship of a gangrenous appendix at the age of 47. He served in the Phillippine Insurrection, the 1911-1917 Mexican Campaign and World War I. Bayard served aboard the USS Buffalo (AD-8), USS Piscataqua (AT-49), USS Rainbow, USS Wompatuck, USS Oregon (BB-3), USRS Philadelphia, USS Peoria (AT-48), USS Lancaster (RS), USS Mississippi (BB-23), USS Massachusetts (BB-2), USS Sylph (PY-5), USS Michigan ((BB-27), USS Illinois (BB-7), USS Hancock (AP-3), and the USS Tennessee (BB-43). He died aboard the Hospital Ship USS Mercy.

FUNERAL OF NAVAL OFFICER TOMORROW

The body of Bayard Kane Brown, a chief machinist and warrant officer of the United States Navy, who died aboard the hospital ship Mercy at Seattle, Wash., on July 18, arrived here yesterday afternoon and was taken to the undertaking parlors of James T. Chandler.

The Rev. W. R. Sumwalt, pastor of Grace M. E. Church, will conduct the funeral services, which will be held tomorrow afternoon at the home of the widow's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore W. Francis, 1308 Tatnall street. Interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery.

Mr. Brown, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Brown, was born and reared in Wilmington, and for eighteen years served in the Unites States Navy. At the time of his death Mr. Brown was chief machinist and warrant officer.

He was on his way to Honolulu when taken ill, but upon reaching San Francisco he was transferred to the hospital ship for treatment. He was 46 years old and is survived by his wife, Mrs. Edith Frances Brown.
