Rae Maurice Crowe, Sr., a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, born September 3, 1931, died November 24, 2007, surrounded by his family.

He was predeceased by his parents, Rae and Lucille Lyon Crowe.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Lillian Carol Evans of Tuscaloosa and his brother Asher Lyon Crowe (Carol); his children , Rae Maurice Crowe, Jr. (Claire) of Dallas, Texas; Celeste Crowe Grenier of Birmingham; Aurelius Evans Crowe (Priscilla) of Mobile; and Lillian Crowe Courtney (Joe) of Mobile; his grandchildren, Rae Maurice Crowe III, Byars Hollis Crowe, Luke Evans Crowe, John Beaulieu Grenier, Jr., Dorothy Monnish Grenier, Evans Barlow Grenier, Carolyn Youmans Grenier, Charles Maxwell Polasky, Benton Matthew Polasky, Lillian Adele Crowe, Joseph Manning Courtney III, Maurice Lyon Courtney, Celeste Evans Courtney and his niece, Rudene Crowe Oldenburg.

Rae attended Murphy High School in Mobile and was graduated from the University of Alabama in 1951 with a B.S. in Business and the University of Alabama Law School with an LLB in 1954 where he was a member of the Law Review. He served two years as a first lieutenant in the JAG Corps in the United States Air Force from 1954-1956. In 1956, he began his fifty year career as a lawyer, subsequently joining the firm which would become Armbrecht, Jackson, Demouy, Crowe, Holmes and Reeves. He specialized in maritime law and oil and gas law, the practice of which included appearances before the Alabama and the United States Supreme Court. He was a member of the Maritime Law Association, serving on its Executive, Nominating and other committees, the Association of Average Adjusters in the United States and London, the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute, the Permanent Advisory Board of the Tulane Admiralty Institute, the International Bar Association and the US Oil & Gas Association Board of Directors.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at St. Paul?s Episcopal Church from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p. m., followed by a 12:00 memorial service at St. Paul?s.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul?s Episcopal Church, 4051 Old Shell Road, Mobile, Alabama, 36608 or to your preferred charity.

He was an advocate and not a judge. His energy, guidance and devotion to his family will be missed.
