Joseph W. LaRue, 78, of Third St., Youngstown, NY, died February 7, 2003 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after a short illness. Born in Ogdensburg, NY on October 2, 1924 to Joseph and Margaret (Dishaw) LaRue.
He attended local schools in Ogdensburg and then enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943, during World War II. He did serve overseas in the North Atlantic from 1944-46. After he was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946, he became a resident of Youngstown and was married on July 16, 1949 to Mary Lou (Olcott) LaRue, who died on January 31, 1978. He then reenlisted and served in the Navy from 1950-52 during, the Korean Conflict. Joe was a lifetime member· and past. commander from 1968-69 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lake Ontario Post #313, Youngstown, was an exempt member of the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Co. and was a member of several American Legion Posts in the Southern Tier, where he enjoyed hunting in that area for many years. .
Joe worked as a supervisor at Great Lakes Carbon for 36 years, retiring in 1985. He then worked odd jobs and most recently was employed at Niagara Frontier Country Club, Youngstown for the past four years.
He is survived by two sons, Mark T. LaRue of Youngstown and William J. (Candy) LaRue of Niagara Falls; one daughter, Chere' M. LaRue of Pendleton, N.Y; two grandsons, Phillip Williams and Billy LaRue; four sisters, Bernice, Doris, Cynthia and Sandra; one brother, Raymond, all who live out of state, and was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth; and sister Mary. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews; and his loving companion, Abbie Earlene Hayes.
Friends may call at the Hardison Funeral Home, 3648 Ransomville Rd., Ransomville, Monday from 2-5 and 7-9 pm, Funeral- service will be held Tuesday (February 11th) at 11:00 a.m. from the funeral home. Burial will follow in Oakland Rural Cemetery, Youngstown. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorial donations may be made to the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Company, P.O.
