Nancy Lavina "Vinney" Dale was born to James Pitts Dale 1804-1895) and Nancy Avant (1811-1887). On 15 March 1873 she married Frances Marion Goodwin at Liberty in Dekalb Co, TN. They settled in Possom Hollow, cleared wilderness land for farming, and began raising a family. Five boys - James, Francis, Arthur, Nathaniel, Clarence and three girls - Hortense, Maggie, and Myrtle were born before 1900. Shortly after the turn of the century, the family moved to Coffee County, TN.
