Richard Ian Brossard courageously fought his final battle and entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 25, 2009, with his loving wife and best friend, Donna, by his side.
Born on October 26, 1941, in Ft. Meade, South Dakota, Rich grew up in the San Francisco Bay and Sacramento, California areas, moving to the Brevard County area in Florida in 1981 from Dallas, Texas. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, to include 4-tours of duty in Vietnam, was a prior member of the 5th Special Forces, an Expert Marksman, and was commissioned as an officer during his service. He truly was a proud and loving man with a profound devotion to his wife, his family, his friends, his belief, his French and Irish heritage, and the military life in which he grew up and served. No military-based Hollywood movie could be watched without him critiquing the uniforms worn or commenting on the lack of reality depicted in the majority of films.

Following his Honorable discharge from the Army, Rich worked hard at completing his educational goals at American River College, Sacramento, CA, Rollins College, Patrick AFB, FL, and Florida Institute of Technology, Melbourne, FL, where he earned his MBA. He retired from United Space Alliance, Kennedy Space Center, FL, in 2007.

Rich was a member of The American Legion, DAV, and Moose Lodge, all of Merritt Island. He enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, camping and traveling.

Rich was preceded in death by his father and mother, Sedro and Juanita Brossard, his brother and sister-in-law, John and Georgia Brossard, and his much loved father-in-law, Dallas Merritt, Sr. In addition to his devoted wife, those who will miss him most and cherish fond memories of his intellect, unusual and quick wit, and culinary skills, are his sons, Sean (Barbara) Brossard and Kelly (Janine) Brossard; four granddaughters, Anna, Caitlin, Molly, and Sarah; sisters, Vira (George) Wagoner, Lynn Couch, Barbara (Dennis) Venteicher, and Lori (Rocky) Yniguez; his mother-in-law, Virginia Merritt; sister-in-law, Harty Marie Wilson; brother-in-law, Dallas (Charlene) Merritt, Jr.; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

There will be a gathering of family and friends to celebrate Rich's life at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home, 196 Hwy 60 East, Frostproof, FL 33843, at 10:00 AM, Friday, July 31, 2009 followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM, and interment following at the Silver Hill Cemetery in Frostproof.

In lieu of flowers, those who so desire may send a donation in his memory to the United Way of Brevard, 937 Dixon Blvd., Cocoa, FL 32922 or the Central Brevard Humane Society, 1020 Cox Road, Cocoa, FL 32926.
