Leona M. Towell, 89, of Louisville, died Thursday at Meadows East. She was the former Leona Maltsbarger, a native of Missouri and a graduate of Southwest College in Springfield, MO, and Carver School of Missions at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. She was a retired bookkeeper for Deans' Food Co., where she worked for 30 years, a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church and a former member of and Sunday school teacher for Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church and Parkwood Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Dr. Sherman Towell, in 1998. She is survived by her daughter and caregiver, Patricia Martin; sons, Alfred Towell of Phoenix, AZ, David Towell of Bowling Green, KY, and Leon Towell; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Towell is resting at the Southern Home of Arch L. Heady & Son, 3601 Taylor Blvd., where services will held at 10 a.m. Saturday. Entombment will be in Resthaven Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday. Memorial gifts may be made to Cedar Creek Baptist Church.
