MRS. ELIZABETH WARD

Samantha Elizabeth Ward, daughter of Amos Perkins and Mary Jane Terrell, was born at Eddyville, Iowa March 27th, 1862 and died at the Mingus Nursing Home in Des Moines, Feb. 6, 1946, at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 9 days.

Her early life was spent on a farm near Eddyville with her mother, brother Cicero, a half-brother and sister and step-father. Her own father lost his life by drowning when she was only three years old.

She was united in marriage in 1888 to Martin Ward and to this union one son was born. In 1911, she with her husband and son moved to a farm east of Russell, where they lived until Mr. Ward's failing health forced them to move into town. In 1927 he passed away.

She joined the Presbyterian Church at Russell during the pastorate of Rev. Russell and as long as her health would permit, was a faithful attendant at all services.

She was a great home-body, and was also very interested in the affairs of the world, writing to two or more of the service boys throughout the war.

Her failing health compelled her to close her home in Sept. and she went to Des Moines to make her home with her son and family. She was there until late December when she was taken to the Mingus Nursing Home.

Bersides her son Jess, she leaves to mourn their loss, two grandchildren, Caryl Rasmussen of Seattle, Washington and Elizabeth Ward of Des Moines, a great-grandchild, Tricia Scott, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Russell Presbyterian Church, conducted by Rev. A. E. Beals of the Baptist Church and interment was made in the Russell cemetery.
