E.N. Rives, one of Morrisonville's respected and highly esteemed citizen, died at the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. H. J. Drake. Sunday noon of cancer of the stomach after a lingering illness. The funeral occurred Tuesday afternoon from the M.E. Church, Rev. E.P. Rankin, assisted by Rev. W.C. Woodyard, officiating. The remains were interred in the Morrisonville Cemetery. The funeral was largely attended.
The deceased was born in Greene County, hear Fayette, in 1852. He was married to Miss F. Ella Raney in 1874. For a number of years the deceased owned and resided on the farm east of Morrisonville, now owned by John Sloman. After selling his farm he moved to Greene County, returning here in the spring of 1903, leasing a farm on the Maxon tract. Sickness compelled him to retire from the farm, and he came to Morrisonville during February. He is survived by his wife, his father, five brothers and one sister. His father resides at Fayette. His brothers and sister are A.J. Rives and C.W. Rives. Greenfield; John Rives, Palmyra; Mrs. Ralph Metcalf, Greenfield; George Rives, Fayette, and Robert Rives, Muldon, Mississippi. All of his brothers, except Robert, attended the funeral. Others from a distance were Ralph Metcalf, Greenfield; Will Drake, East St. Louis and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Drake and Thomas Raney of Decatur.
The deceased was a big hearted, kindly Christian man and his death is a loss to the community.
