MRS. ELIZABETH BISHOP
Mrs. Elizabeth Bishop, 83, 310 Seneca street, one of Leavenworth's early day residents, died at her home at 8:30 o'clock, Feb. 9, after an extended illness.
Born in Dubuque, Ia., July 22, 1854, she came with her parents to Weston, Mo., where the family established a home. They later came down the Missouri river and entered Leavenworth, and lived here for a few years before going to Mooney Creek, Kas. Mrs. Bishop remained at Mooney Creek until she was 19 years of age.
She married Lyman Bishop and with her husband operated the Central hotel at Winchester and the Royal Hotel at Valley Falls, Kas. She retired from the hotel business in 1918 and with her husband came back to Leavenworth, where they were associated with the real estate business and various fraternal organizations for many years. Mr. Bishop died in July, 1928, two years after retiring from active business here. Mrs. Bishop had resided here since that time.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Birdie O'Brien, Topeka, Kas.; Mrs. Effie Koch, Wichita, Kas.; Mrs. Marie Higgins, Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Myrtle Doty, Topeka, Kas., and Mrs. Nora Donoho, City; one son, Edward Bishop, home address; seventeen grandchildren and five great grand grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 11, at 10 o'clock at the Davis funeral church, with the Rev. A. Frank Johnson, Jr., pastor of the First Presbyterian church, officiating. Interment was in Langley cemetery, Easton.--Times
