In 1969, they moved to rural Leonard where Reuben served as the Lutheran pastor. In 1972, they moved to Hatton, N.D. While living in Hatton, Kathy held several jobs. She worked as a cook at the drive inn and also the Country Squire. She also worked as a book keeper at the local bean plant. She also had a day care at the house. In 1980, they moved to Park River, N.D. That year Kathy was diagnosed as having MS. She had a baby sitting service while in Park River. She also served as the secretary for the men's Thursday night bowling league. In 1990, they moved to Noche, N.D. In 1994, they moved back to Leonard. In 1998, they moved to West Fargo. Kathy enjoyed every job she had and felt that she learned something from each of them.
Kathy was very active in many community activities. She enjoyed being with people. She was also an avid quilter and made quilts for her grandchildren when they graduated from high school. She also enjoyed crocheting. She has many items she crocheted in many homes. She was an individual who could get along with anyone. She also was a person with a sense of humor. She thought laughter to be a gift from God that was great for healing and for friendship. She was a wonderful mother and wife and a best friend to all who came to know her. Kathy was very active in all the churches where Reuben served as pastor. She took an active role in WELCA as well as other activities in the church. She also served as a delegate for the Women's National Convention in San Diego and even helped with communion at the closing service. She will be missed by her family and all who came to know her.
Kathy is survived by her husband; one daughter, Belinda (Bert) Ready, Martin, S.D.; five sons, David (Laurel), Hatton, N.D., Larry (Angie), Jamestown, N.D., Stewart (Susan), Park River, N.D., Steven (Ruth), Grand Forks, N.D., and Michael (Jennifer), Riverdale, Calif.; 22 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis (Allan) Forness, Colfax, N.D.; one brother, Levoine (Carol) Nelson, Park Rapids, Minn.; one sister-in-law, Gladys Nelson, Fargo; her mother-in-law, Christine Jacobson, West Fargo and Reuben's brothers and sisters and their spouses. Also her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Arland.
Katheleen died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at the age of 64 in her home in West Fargo, N.D.
The funeral will be Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at 2 p.m. in Lutheran Church of the Cross, West Fargo. Visitation will be Monday from 4-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. in Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo. Arrangements by Fredrikson Funeral Chapel, Kindred and Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo.
