Funeral services for James Homer Hester, 74, retired farmer of Davidson Road, Duncan's Chapel community, will be conducted Monday at 3 p.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church by the Rev. S.P. Hester, the Rev. Leon Chandler and the Rev. R.J. Marsh. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The following nephews will serve as pallbearers: Ruthel Duncan, Fred Hester, Eugene Hester, Ansel Bridwell, Alvin P. Hester and Martin L. Robinson.

Honorary escort will be the Men's Bible Class of Reedy River Baptist Church with Dr. Everett Poole, Dr. Ernest Williams, Dr. Stanley Coleman and Dr. Perry T. Bates.

He died at a local hospital Saturday at 4:45 p.m. after a serious illness of four weeks.

Born in upper Greenville County, he was a son of the late W. Martin Hester and Mary Marchbanks Hester and had been a resident of Greenville County all his life.

Mr. Hester was a member and former deacon of Reedy River Baptist Church and had been Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the Men's Bible Class of the Sunday School.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ollie Brown Hester; 3 daughters, Mrs. Alvin Bryson and Mrs. Carol Gilreath of Greenville and Mrs. John T. Batson of Columbia; 8 sons, Grover N. Hester, Ford R. Hester, Allen W. Hester, James Paul Hester, Milton H. Hester, Raymond D. Hester, F. Theodore Hester and Norwood T. Hester, all of Greenville; 5 sisters, Mrs. Evie H. Duncan of Greenville, Mrs. Fannie H. Black of Rt. 1, Travelers Rest, Mrs. Lula H. Bridwell, Mrs. Modell H. Robinson and Mrs. Sunie H. Turner, all of Greenville; 2 brothers, S. Perry Hester and Wilburn M. Hester, both of Greenville; 24 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

The body will be at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home until one hour before the service when it will be placed in the church.
