Mr. Charles "Newt" Staub, 80, of Gaithersburg, formerly of Beallsville and Frederick, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, at Wilson Health Care Center of the Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg.

He was the husband of Marie C. Staub, who died Oct. 17. They were married March 30, 1940.

Born July 28, 1920, at the family home on Md. 109 near Beallsville, he was a son of the late George A. and Jennie C. Staub.

Mr. Staub was raised in the Catholic Church and attended St. Mary's Parish in Barnesville as a child and young adult. He was educated in the Montgomery County public school system in Poolesville.

He was a member of Upper Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Department and served as its chief for four years. He was a member of the Lions Club in Beallsville and Elks Club in Frederick.

With his wife, Mr. Staub owned and operated Staub's Lunch and Western Wear in Beallsville from 1944 to 1980. He also served as postmaster of Beallsville for 32 years.

He and his wife retired to their Clover Hill home in Frederick in 1980 and resided there until 1998. Both he and his wife were residents of Glade Valley Nursing Center in Walkersville from 1998 until being transferred to Wilson Health Care in Gaithersburg in April 2000. They lived together at both facilities.

Surviving are one son, Charles N. Staub Jr. and wife Nita of Montgomery Village; and two grandchildren, Jennifer Wood and Peter Judson Staub.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road, Barnesville. Funeral services will be held there at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16. Interment will be in Monocacy Cemetery, Beallsville.
