Larry G. Downing, 66, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2009, in his home, in Phillipsburg, surrounded by his family. He was born May 29, 1943, in Marshfield, Missouri, the son of Robert Kenneth and Ethel Margaret (Alexander) Downing. Larry proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. On September 12, 1981, Larry and Judy Greer were united in marriage. Larry was a longtime businessman in the Conway area, where he owned Downing Sales and Service Inc. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Conway. Community service and "giving back" was an important part of his life, he was always ready to help. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Kenneth Downing and Fred Cox; and a grandchild, Alena Mitchell. Larry is survived by his wife, Judy of the home; two daughters, Teresa (Downing) Cossey and husband, Terry of Conway, Missouri, and Wendell Okamura and husband, Eric of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one son, Brett Armstrong and wife, Belinda of Conway, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Taylor, Angela, Faith, Samuel, Paul, Zach and Summer; one brother, Bill Downing and wife, Shirley of Seattle, Washington; and step-sisters and brothers, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Services for Larry Downing will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 27, 2009, in First Baptist Church, in Conway, Missouri, with Rev. Jim Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery, in Conway, with full military honors provided by Webster County Veteran's Memorial Team.
