OXFORD -- James Otey Bumpass Sr., 85, a resident of 2495 Halifax Rd., Roxboro, died Saturday, Dec. 4, at Treyburn Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Durham.

A native and former resident of 1170 Grassy Creek-Virgilina Rd., he was the son of the late Felix O. and Bertha Whitfield Bumpass. He was a member of Oak Hill Presbyterian Church and was retired from Collins & Aikman.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Rev. Don Mairs. Burial will be in Meadowview Memorial Park.

Surviving are his wife, Myrtle Bivins Bumpass; four daughters, Caroline B. Smith, of Oxford, Virginia B. Faulk, of Pleasant Garden, Hazel B. Roberson, of Roxboro, and Lois B. Clayton, of McLeansville; two sons, James O. bumpass Jr., of Oxford, and Haywood B. bumpass, of Henderson; two sisters, Kate B. Pointer, of Durham, and Odell B. Wheeler, of Oxford; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
