MARIE SLAGLE PELONG
Marie Slagle Pelong, 67, of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, a former resident of Brooklyn and Grinnell, died Wednesday, April 15, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center.
Funeral services were conducted Monday in the Iowa Veterans Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jack Mauldin officiating. Burial was in the Iowa Veterans Home Cemetery, with the Nevenhoven Funeral Home of Brooklyn in charge of arrangements.
She was the daughter of Cecil Earl and Zilla Fullerton Force and was born June 9, 1930, in Brooklyn. She was a 1948 graduate of Brooklyn High School.
She was married to Lester Slagle in Brooklyn in 1948. She lived in Grinnell and Cedar Falls before becoming a resident of the Iowa Veterans Home in 1993. In November 1996, she was married to James W. Pelong in Marshalltown.
Surviving are her husband; one daughter, Patricia Ann Crow of Winthrop; four sisters, Ruth Gundelfinger of Ventura, Calif., Delores Brown of San Bernardino, Calif., Kay Brooks of Greensboro, N.C., and Mary Schabacker of Des Moines; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; one daughter, Susan Kay; and a brother, John Force.
