Newport, William Frazier—Born March 20, 1884, age 75 years, 8 months and 19 days. Deceased this life December 8, 1959. He was married to Bettie Dyer and to this union were born eleven children, four boys and seven girls. Three preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his absence his wife, Betty Dyer Newport, two sons, Archie Newport, Winona, Tenn., Defoe Newport, Dayton, Ohio, six daughters, Hazel Dockery, Athens, Tennessee, Mae Woodward, Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Mildred Reed, Naomi Jeffers, Alma Sexton, Huntsville and Elva Wright, Jr., Dayton, Ohio; one brother, U.S. Newport, Corona, Calif. and a host of friends and relatives. He professed a hope in Christ and joined the Winona Baptist Church and lived a devoted Christian life until death. He was deacon and clerk of the Winona Baptist Church for a number of years. Funeral services were conducted from the Winona Baptist Church at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 10, 1959, with Rev. L.M. Jeffers officiating. Burial in Newport Cemetery.
