Born Oct. 1, 1899 in Paulding County near Melrose, he was the son of William H. and Maude (Blaine) Martin.
On April 3, 1922 he married Lois E. Haddox who survives.
Mr. Martin came to McComb in 1902, and since 1931 he was a member of the McComb Volunteer Fire Department. He became assistant fire chief in 1944.
The former manager of the Baker Hardware Store in McComb, he later had a distributorship for International harvester Farm Equipment. After that business was dissolved, he formed the Dewey martin Sales of Lawn and garden equipment.
He served on the McComb village Council and the board of public affairs of the Village of McComb, and was active in committees of the McComb Methodist Church where he served as chairman of the official board, chairman of the membership and evangelism commission and the pastoral relations committee.
He is also survived by a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Leona Ruth) Stout, Columbus; a sister, Mrs. Harold (Violet) Murray, Findlay and two granddaughters.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Harmon-Hartley Funeral Home in McComb, The Rev. Robert P. Miller Sr. assisted by Dr. D. Worthman and the Rev. C.E. Jeffers will officiate. Burial will be in McComb Union Cemetery. Friends may call after noon today at the funeral home.
