Marie Anna Roos was born at Seward in Nebraska, on 16 July 1884. She was born to Michael and Marie A. (Allgaier) Roos.
On 25 November 1909, at Cour d'alene in Idaho, Maria married Earl Johnston, a Spanish American War Veteran. They remained married until Earl's death in 1941.
While a resident of the Washington Veterans Home at Retsil in Washington, Marie met another Spanish American War Veteran. On 30 April 1950, at Lewis County in Washington, she married her second husband Charles Henry Safken. This marriage also lasted til death, the death of Charles in 1966.
At the young age of eighty nine, on 18 May 1973, Marie passed away. She is buried, with both her husbands, in the Washington Veterans Home Cemetery at Retsil, Washington.
