Mrs. Viola E. (Burns) Smith, age 92, of Michigan City, died Sunday, January 22 at 8:00 A.M. at St. Anthony Memorial Health Center.
Services will be Thursday, January 26 at 11:00 A.M. at Carlisle Funeral Home with the Rev. David Matevia officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City.
Mrs. Smith was born October 4, 1913, in Smiths Station, IN to William J. and Emma F. (Greehn) Woodruff, both whom are deceased. She married Lyle W. Burns on Oct. 21, 1932, he passed away in 1961, she married Jay Smith on June 15, 1963, he passed away March 16, 1980.
Survivors include brothers Frank Woodruff, Plant City, FL; Glenn (Vera) Woodruff, Michigan City, Roy (Delores) Woodruff, Bradenton Beach, FL; William (Karin) Woodruff, Michigan City, Frederick (Janet) Woodruff, Michigan City, sisters Mary Jane Steinhagen, LaPorte, and Barbara (James) Daly, Mill Creek, IN; sister-in-law Phyllis Woodruff, Riverside, CA, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by brothers Lawrence, Louis, and John Woodruff, and sister Dorothy Murray.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker. She enjoyed trail riding and camping.
