Son of Rev. William George and Susan Maud (Hawken) Cooper. He married Virginia Carter in Providence, RI on June 8, 1940. He became a minister from his early days at Brown University. He was the pastor of the South Killingly Congregational Church. He also was a Family Relations Officer for the State of Connecticut Judicial System. His longest pastorate was the United Protestant Church in Sterling, CT, from which he retired in October 1995. A classical scholar, Mr. Cooper insisted on the correct use of the English language, about which he was nothing short of Passionate, and maintained his sharp mind and keen sense of humor throughout his life. A competing passion was chopping and splitting firewood that heated the family home.
