Augusta Luchau Hermann was born On September 27, 1846, in Milwaukee, WI. On January 7, 1867, she was married to Fred Luchau and to this marriage were born six sons and one daughter.

The father, who was a Civil War veteran, died while the children were yet young, and the mother courageously bore the burden of bringing up her large family alone. On August 14, 1901, she was married to William Hermann. He died in 1903.

Of late years, Mrs. Hermann had her little home in Frazee, MN. and to her friends and neighbors her passing brings genuine grief. She visited often at the home of her daughter , Mrs. C.F. Bublitz of Dent, MN, where her death occurred Tuesday, April 21, due to pleurisy and pneumonia with which she became afflicted on Monday. A nurse was called in attendance as soon at it was discovered that she was critically ill, but her advanced years (85) and the fact that she was physically weakened from sickness suffered the last winter, made all efforts to save her life unavailing. Death came peacefully to her as she slept, a little after 8 o'clock that evening.

Besides her daughter, Louise Bublitz, she is survived by 6 sons, Edward Luchau who resides in Montana: Benjamin Luchau, Frazee: George Luchau and Wesley Luchau, Warren, MN. Charles Luchau, Bigfork, MN. and Arthur Luchau, Palm Harbor, FL.

Reverend M.C. Kishpaugh conducted the funeral services on Friday afternoon at Dent. A short prayer service was held at the Bublitz home before the church service. - Obituary from newspaper in Frazee, MN. Frazee (MN) Press. April 30, 1931

They also found a place for another boy who needed a home and family. He was called William Luchau. On the 1900 census, William is stated as born Nov. 1866. William Luchau died 25 Dec 1936 in Polson, MT. William and Fannie had 2 sons, Harold and Harvey.

Augusta lived with her parents in Milwaukee and Galena, IL. and Hay Creek, MN. After her marriage Fred and Augusta lived in Hay Creek and Lockhart, MN. After her husband's death in 1891, Augusta and her family lived for awhile in Ada, MN., but moved to Red Wing about 1893 to be near her sister and for better work opportunities for her sons, for it was necessary to supplement her Civil War widow's pension. In 1901, Augusta married William Hermann, but he died in 1903, and after that she lived near her daughter, Louise and husband, Charles Bublitz. Thereafter she lived in Bertha, MN. Valley City, ND. and Frazee, MN. always near her daughter and son-in-law Louise and Charley Bublitz.

Augusta Baernd was the daughter of Gottfried Baernd and Carolina Tietz. She and Fred Luchau were married 07 Jan 1867 in Red Wing, Goodhue, Minnesota and were the parents of seven sons and one daughter. - Norene Schlader as told by Louise Johannaber

She is listed as this in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Dent, MN: "Augusta Amelia Behrend Hermann"
