World War I veteran
4/26/1918 to 6/26/1919
Charles’ service record indicates that he initially went into the Army at Fort Dodge, IA (28 Apr 1918 – 14 May 191 for training and then onto Fort Travis, TX (17 May 1918 – 5 Jun 191 which would have suggested that both of these camps were just stopping points before being shipped overseas. He was placed in Company F of the 315th Engineers, 90th Division while at Fort Travis.

The HMS Hempstead brought him to Liverpool, England on the 29th of June 1918. On the military record it indicates that he participated in Puvenville, France and later at Meuse-Argonne offensive and St. Mihiel battles. Charles was given an honorable discharge June 26th 1919 and about one year after his service was completed he received a Bonus of $225.
