Alice Grandon was born in Madison County, Nebraska on November 24, 1872, to Isaac and Louisa (Riddle) Grandon. When just a girl, she came with her parents to Cherry County, Nebraska, where the remainder of her life was spent. She married James William Beed in 1888 and to this union, four sons were born. Her husband died in 1923, and for some months Mrs. Beed has been in failing health, and although everything was done that medical scdience could do, she was called to death on Friday, July 17, in the hospital at Hot Springs, South Dakota, at the age of 52 years, 7 months and 23 days. She leaves to mourn the four sons, Lawnie C. Beed, Raymond L. Beed, Watson E. Beed, and Estel E. Beed; three grandchildren; two brothers, Barnett Grandon of Lemmon, SD and John Grandon of Denver; and four sisters, Mrs. Olive Hanson of Herried SD, Mrs. Lou Sornes of Roseburg, OR, Mrs. Nellie Williams of Reno, NV and Mrs. Ida Pierce of Fargo, ND. Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist Church Monday afternoon, the pastor, Rev. n. Spooner officiating, and internment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Valentine.
