Elyria Republican, February 14, 1878

Mr. John Mills, one of the early settlers of Wellington, and afterward of Brighton township, died on the 3d inst. of paralysis. For nearly two years Mr. Mills was on the sick list, and his sufferings for the past five months, since paralysis set in, have been unusually severe. He was a Virginian by birth; came to this place when a young man; worked at the trade of brick-making for a few years; but after his marriage he settled on a farm in Brighton township, near the west line of this township, where h has since resided. Out of a family of seventeen children, but seven lived to mature years; one of these, a son, was killed in the late ware of the Rebellion. His wife and six children live to mourn the loss of the departed. Ever a kind husband and affectionate father, the void in the family circle will cause heartaches, such as only those who have passed through similar afflictions alone can realize.
