Obituary:

Rhoda Caroline, daughter of Hiram L. and Margaret George was born Marshalltown Marshall county, Iowa April 29, 1860 and passed away at her home southeast of Lebanon, Smith county, Kansas April 30 age 69 years.

She was united in marriage to Robert Lindsley Barnett Jan. 27, 1878 at Hoton, Jackson, county Kansas coming to Jewell county the same year moving to Smith county in 1900 spending her pioneer days in these two counties where she saw the passing of the ox teams and covered wagons, the coming of aeroplane and automobile and more of the moden inventions.

To this union eleven children were born, 7 girls and four boys 10 of whom are living were born. Arminta J. Kennedy, Lester L. Barnett and Sylvia M. Dutton of Esbon, Kansas, Ira A. Barnett of Otego, Kansas, Arthur L. Barnett of Rexford, Kansas, Bessie E. Mason of Vona, Colo., Zella D. Calkins of Dexter, Kansas, Mary E. Wallace, Charles F. and Gladys C. Barnett of Lebanon, Kansas. Besides her children she leaves to mourn her loss eighteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren also three brothers and other relatives and friends.

Her husband passed away Feb. 22, 1924 and one daughter Nina T. May 3rd. 1919.

A good woman has gone. One who was a great reader and lover of the Bible and as she came down to the close of life she had no fear. Her trust was In the Lord. She was able to say the Lord’s will be done. The following text was used in funeral sermon: “I know that my Redeemer liveth and because He lives I shall live also. Funeral services held Friday May 3rd, at 2 p. m. conducted by Rev. and Mrs. J. D. Lamb. Interment in Odessa cemetery.
