Circus Performer. The daughter of J.S. and H.P. Bump, Huldah and her sister, Lavinia, were the only dwarves in a large family of average-sized people. Her stage name was Minnie Warren. She worked for P.T. Barnum with several other dwarves: "General Tom Thumb" (Charles Stratton), his wife, Lavinia (her sister), and Commodore George Washington Morrison Nutt. She and Nutt served as maid of honor and best man at the Strattons' "fairy wedding."
Minnie died in childbirth. During her pregnancy, she was advised to have an abortion, but she rejected the idea on religious grounds. Sadly, because of her small size, both she and her child died. The baby, who weighed six pounds, was supposedly buried in its mother’s arms. Her husband, also a dwarf, returned to his native England and remarried.
The Middleboro Historical museum has a wonderful collection of items that belong to Minnie, and her sister Lavinia and her husband. The gravestone for Minnie is said to have been made the same height as she was.
