Mr. John A. Goedeke, for thirty years a resident of Taylor county, a greater part of which time he lived in Abilene, passed away at his home in the southwestern part of the city. While death came not unexpected, it was a shock and loss not only to the surviving members of his family but to all who knew him. He was a good man and the upright and straightforward life that he lived while upon this earth will not be forgotten by al(l) of his acquaintances as long as life is spared to them.

The funeral services were held this afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Sacred Heart Catholic church.

John A. Goedeke was born in Hanover, Germany in Nov. 1828. He came to Taylor county in an early day and was a conspicuous figure in the building up and settlement of this country. (county?)

He leaves five sons and one daughter, Theo, Abilene; William, Lynchburg; Bob, Arizona; Charley, Pecos; Ike, Texico; Mrs. Windham, Pecos. Theo, Ike and Charley were at his bedside when death came.
