Mrs. Mary Emma Mason, of Toledo, died Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Lawless Convalescent Home in Tama, where she had been a patient several weeks. Mrs. Mason had been ill for the past two years and had been cared for in her home in Toledo by her daughters until about four weeks ago, when she fell and fractured her pelvic bone. She was taken to the University hospital, Iowa City, for treatment, and had been cared for in the convalescent home at Tama since.
She was born October 22, 1862, in Howard township, Tama county, the daughter of William and Mary Ross, and attended a rural school. She was married to Jarvis Edwin Mason, who died in 1920. Surviving are her three daughters, Mrs. Juanita Winterowd, of Marshalltown; Mrs. Spencer Nelson, of Tama; and Mrs. Daisy Berger, of Toledo. She also leaves four grandchildren —Mrs. George Rosenberger, of Toledo; Donald Bratton, of Ames; Dale Bratton, of Toledo; and Janet Rae Winterowd, of Marshalltown; three great grandchildren, George and Edward Rosenberger, of Toledo, and Susan Bratton, of Ames; and one great, great grandchild, James Craig Rosenberger, of Toledo.
The Rev. D. H. Artman, pastor of the Toledo Methodist church, was in charge of funeral services held Tuesday afternoon in Toledo. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery north west of Toledo. Mrs. John Gray and Mrs. Forrest Flynn, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. P. H. Overturf, sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Shall We Gather at the River." Pallbearers were Ed Stewart, M. C. Levis, L. K. Holliday, Ward Ferris, Hiram Hill and C. E. Sleeter, Alice Daugherty and Mrs. Elsie Mason were in charge of flowers.
