When Baylis was born Bartow Co. did not exist and it was Cass County at the time. He was the son of John Baylis Lewis and Elizabeth Ann Miller Lewis. Baylis Lewis parents, grandparents and great grandparents are all buried in or near Adairsville and Fairmount, Ga through Maj John Lewis, REV. Baylis married Sarah Ann Rebecca Gillespie on the 8th of Nov. 1861 in Jasper, Pickens Co., Ga. Baylis died in Brookwood just months after his wife Sarah on the 15th of Nov 1915. Baylis' military service is incorrectly noted on his gravestone, he was first in the First Georgia Cavalry, Regiment, Co. F., CSA, and later was in the 10th Tennessee Cavalry, GAR USA [UA]. Baylis and Sarah also had Alice Eugenia Lewis wife of Nathan Hedgecoth who are believed to be buried in Hennepin County, Minnesota and Walter Augustine Lewis husband of Lizzie Denton who is possibly buried in Tennessee.
