James joined the Ohio 103 Volunteer Infantry, Company F, in 1861. While he was serving in the Civil War, Augusta died on May 14, 1864, in Brighton, Lorain County, Ohio. After the Civil War, James M. Jones married Augusta' sister Louisa C. Hall on 29 Nov 1866 in Lorain County, Ohio.
