Former Red Cloud resident Nathan D. Guy, 76, died Monday, March 23, 1998, in Tucson, Ariz.

Memorial services will be at a later date in Red Cloud. His remains were cremated. The Heather Mortuary and Chapel of Tucson is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Guy was born Oct. 10, 1921, to Albert and Beulah (Doudna) Guy north of Guide Rock in Webster County. He attended rural Guide Rock schools and Hastings public schools and graduated from Red Cloud High School in 1939. He attended Hastings College for two years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II serving as a military policeman. He graduated from St. Louis College of Mortuary Science in 1947. On July 11, 1948, he married Marvel Stokes in Red Cloud. He was a funeral director with Ralph Amack, William Schultz and Carl Simonson in Red Cloud for 26 years. He was associated with the Gambles hardware store in Red Cloud from 1951-86. He purchased that business in 1961.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Charity Lodge No. 53 A.F. & A.M., both of Red Cloud, and the Tehama Shrine Temple and Scottish Rite, both in Hastings. He had served on the City Council, Chamber of Commerce and board of education, all in Red Cloud.

Survivors are his wife; two sons, Mark of Grand Forks, N.D., and Phil of Lilburn, Ga.; one daughter, Jean Starkey of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Mary Jean Cavanaugh of Levittown, Pa., and Audrey Lee Webster of Lynchburg, Va.; and five grandchildren.
