Mr. Reed was a civil war veteran. He served his country in the 57th Ohio Infantry regiment Between 1861 and 1865. He fought at Shiloh, Vicksburg, Kenasaw Mtn., just to name a few. After the war he worked as a carpenter. Records show he had two wives who preceded him in death. By John Peterman

Thomas B Reed married 1st to Harriet M Burns (1840-1862). The 1860 Census shows that Thomas and Harriet were living in Randolph County, Illinois at the time, near his brother Garret McCann Reed. After the Civil War he went home to live with his parents in Elizabeth Township, Pennsylvania, and we find him there in the 1870 Census. He married Sarah A Luce in 1872 in Pennsylvania, but she died shortly after they were married, in 1873. He married 3rd to Cornelia Ella Jacobs (1847-1931), who is also buried at this cemetery. Thomas and Cornelia were married in 1874, and we find them in the 1880 Census living next to his parents in Elizabeth Township, Pennsylvania. And, in 1900 we find Thomas and Cornelia living in Findlay, Hancock, Ohio, with two of their children, Clara and Ralph.

A child from his first marriage, Adella, born 17 Aug 1860 in Randolph County, Illinois died 5 months after her mother, on 25 Dec 1862. The children of Thomas and Cornelia were George Wilbur Reed (1875-1884), Clara Abbagail Reed, Thomas Stuart Reed, Raymond Logan Reed (1884-1885), and Ralph Warren Reed.

From "REED" A RECORD OF THE DESCENDANTS OF JOSEPH REED AND HIS WIFE, SARAH THOMPSON REED", By Margaret Helen Reed-Reynolds , 1976, (Granddaughter to Garret McCann Reed and Grand Niece to Thomas B Reed):
"The first REED, and our Great Uncle, to volunteer for service in the Civil War was THOMAS B REED, on November 21, 1861 at the age of 24 years. He was living and working as a carpenter in Findlay, Ohio at the time. He was mustered into the 57th Ohio Infantry, Company "G", under Captain Kilkenny, at Camp Vance and sent to Camp Chase first, then on to Camp Donelson, and thence to Paducah, Kentucky. They were kept there until March, 1862.
By the 6th of April about a third of the regiment were ill, and he was one of those left at the Union Hospital at Memphis, Tennessee. From then until July he was confined. Back into service he again became ill and was left for eight months at Memphis. This time as he became mobile, he worked at the Hospital, first as a nurse for three months then as a cook, until September of 1863. He was then discharged on disability.
Recovering at home he felt the urge to continue the fight and with determination he reenlisted again on January 23, 1864, at Larkinville, Alabama, in the same Regiment, but Company "H" under Lt. Owen Francis. The men of the 57th were the first regiment to re-enlist as veterans in the Fifteenth Army Corps. The men were given a month's furlough, however, under special order, before active duty again.
In March with 207 recruits they arrived at Nashville where they joined the regular Brigade. On the 1st of May it moved on the Atlanta campaign. The 57th participated in the severe battle at Snake Creek Gap and Resaca on May 13th and 14th and lost 57 men. Again at Dallas for three days of fierce fighting and loss of men. Also at New Hope Church the fighting was bad and several men lost.
By July 20th they reached Atlanta and the 57th was in the heat of the Battle there. On the last day of battle, the 28th, Thomas was severely injured, when a bullet in the left temple paralyzed his right side, arm, thigh and leg. He again was hospitalized till discharged on February 28, 1865, at Camp Dennison, Ohio. We have no way of knowing whether he ever met up with his brothers or not. Especially with a younger brother, JOHN D REED, who served in the same regiment and Company "H" of Ohio. We are quite sure he must have, but there is no diary to tell us now. Returning to his parent's home in Pennsylvania, he gradually regained his health and activity."
