Capt. Samuel Shelton, died October 24, 1822 in the 61st year of his age, a native of Virginia, but for some years a resident of South Carolina. He was one of those patriots of the Revolution who took up arms as soon as he was able to bear them, nor ever laid them down till his country was free. he followed Washington until he held victory at Yorktown. He saw the last gasp of tyranny and the first breath of freedom. He was not only a patriot but he was humane and charitable, his deportment and manners were such as to commend respect from all. He never deserted a friend or refused to face a foe. Bold, perservering ...He treated all men evenly...
