OBITUARY and MEMORIAM for DEVERNEY C. BOYER

Te subject of this sketch was DUVERNEY C. BOYLER, the youngest son of L. O. Boyer and wife of Turbett Township, Juniata County, Pa.

About four weeks ago the young man was hunting and briar scratched his left cheek. So slight was the wound that little was thought of it. However, in a few days it became evident that the wound was infected which finally ended in blood poison. Sporadically, Deverney experienced great pain, but those who were with him constantly testify that he did not murmur.

He was like every normal young man, coming into his mature powers, he-desired to get well again.

Several years ago he became a member of the Port Royal Lutheran Church. He loved to hear and profit by the Word. He passed away leaving a large family hitherto unbroken by death. He had a large circle of friends as was manifest in the exceptionally large funeral cortage.

The deceased was 22 years and 1 day in age. [Died 1 JAN 1912] The funeral was held last Thursday, January 4th, at 2 o'clock. His pastor, Rev. I O. Moser, based a few remarks on John 11-23, "Jesus saith unto her, thy brother shall rise again." The sincerest sympathy is extended the parents and family from their wide circle of friends and relatives.

IN MEMORIAM TO DUVERNEY C. BOYER

To write something on the death of my brother is a task, for it is no pleasant duty, yet never can I pass an hour like this without speaking a word of praise on such a noble life.

Life is full of mysteries and this strange dispensation of Providence is one of them. Just when Duverney was In the prime of life with practically everything to live, for, esteemed in the community and loved in his home, he was taken from us. He was kind and affectionate to all, devoted to his church where he loved to attend to hear the word of God and to sing his praise. His favorite hymn was "God shall wipe all tears away," and how Duverney loved and could sing this sweet hymn. But how much more beautiful will it be to sing it now in Heaven with those who are robed in white around the 'great white throne of God.

Why Duyerney was taken from us so young in years is a mystery we cannot understand now, but God moves in a mysterious way his wonders to perform and sometime we will understand, yet it may be this life was taken to save some other life for Heaven.

We must believe harder on God and trust more than ever in His word.

It is sad to think when we go home now there will be no baby boy to throw his arms around our necks and give us the fond kiss, of welcome, yet in our sorrow we can think that although he cannot come to us, yet we can and will some day go to him.

Duverney was 22 years old but he was our baby still although grown to stalwart manhood.

He had the affection of, a child and was kind and gentle.

Duverney C. Boyer was the youngest child of Lehman Oliver and Annie Robinson Boyer, was born Dec; 31st, 1889 and died Jan. 1st 1912, in the home of his birth. He leaves to mourn his parting from us, Father and mother, Mrs. J. S. Kepner, of near Port Royal; Mrs. N. H Groninger, of Altoona; Mrs. W. A. Hostetler and Mrs. W. V. Fuller, of Mt. Union; Mrs. E. B. Matlack, of Ithan; Mrs. Blaine Book at home and two brothers, Wilson G., of Oxford, Pa.: and Lucian R., near home.

The funeral was attended by a very large body of friends and neighbors and showed the high esteem in which he was held by them.
